Upgrading A Laptops Video Card

by on July 8, 2006

Q: I have a laptop and I would like to upgrade my video card. Is it possible and if so how do I go about doing it?

A: Laptops are not known for being able to be upgraded. The great upside to a laptop is you can easily take it with you when you go from place to place. The downside of having a laptop is that over time you have to keep buying new ones because usually only the memory and the hard drives can be easily upgraded.

There are some newer laptops that say they are more upgradeable but I have yet to see them myself or hear about anyone actually upgrading the video card. So unfortunately you are most likely out of luck if you “need” to upgrade your video card for a specific reason. If you just “want” to upgrade your memory then you are still out of luck but you at least get to decide if you “want” a new laptop or not.
