Mobile Office Setup

Q: I have a camper and want to make it into a mobile real estate office with Internet and cell and email access. What is the most economical and efficient way to do it?

A: How interesting; a mobile real estate office seems like a wonderful idea. As your question notes, email and cell phone service are essential in any office including your mobile real estate office.

There are a few options for “wiring” your office, but I think the easiest, most economical plan would be to outfit your office with a laptop (or group of laptops, depending on the number of users) fitted with a wireless card from your wireless carrier (T-Mobile, AT&T, etc.). For example, AT&T offers Wireless Connect Air Cards that you insert in your laptop, allowing you to have Internet access anywhere that there is cell phone service.

As for a cell phone, I would work with your existing carrier, telling them your plans for your real estate office. You may be able to get one of the popular “Family Plans” with multiple cell phones for a nominal monthly feel. There is probably a package deal that you can get, incorporating your cell phone plan with the wireless card(s) for your laptop(s).

As a starting point, I would call your existing cell phone carrier and discuss your mobile office plans with a customer service representative; they should be able to give you a price breakdown for cell phone minutes and wireless cards.

Good luck!
