Norton Antivirus protects against viruses.

Webroot protects against spyware.

There is a slight difference between the two. Viruses normally cause major problems on your computer, like deleting data.

Spyware actually tries to get your information and send it to a central location so the person can use, for example, your credit card to buy something for themselves.

While there are products that try to do everything most of them fail. So in most cases you need at least 2 or 3 programs to really protect yourself.

You should make sure you have a firewall.

You should make sure you have a virus scanner (Norton is acceptable although the author of the post suggests another).

You should have a spyware/malware scanner (webroot is acceptable although I personally like Ad-Aware).
