Is an LG 50 inch 720p plasma better than a Toshiba 48 inch 1080p LCD?
by Guest Geek on December 3, 2008Q: Hi, my name is Jordan from canada. We bought a TV from Costco yesterday, a 50 inch LG plasma 720p TV. My dad wants to return it and get a Toshiba Regza 48 inch LCD 1080p TV. Which TV is better? We are trying to make up our minds, but I really don’t want to hassle to return it and what not.

I would have to think there is a price difference as well besides the specs you gave. Normally when you get over 36 inches an LCD usually costs considerably more than a plasma are considerably more money than plasmas.
I personally think when it comes to buying TV’s it is all about personal preference not about specs.

A 1080p television will provide a better picture than a 720p/1080i television, especially when used with Blu-ray discs and upscaled DVDs. Also, plasma screens are vulnerable to burn-in while LCD screens are not.
If it were me and I could afford to do so, I would choose a 1080p LCD television over any 720p television.
