Why do I have static coming out of my speakers?

Q: I have a Dell XPS Gen 2, Intel Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz, 512MB DDR SDRAM 400Mhz. I currently have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 THX card w/ DVD audio.

The problem I’m having is constant static in the speakers. I’ve had the problem increase over the past year. It is so annoying that I can’t even have my speakers on. I’m running Windows XP and have a Linksys WRT300N hooked up for the 2 laptops in the house also.

I called Dell and they sold me a refurbished card only to be back ordered twice. I’m thinking they are guessing that is the problem. If that is so, what sound card should I get to replace it? It is a PCI card. Could I replace it with a Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme-Gamer Sound Card? I’m wanting to listen to movies, music and normal computer use. Thank you!
