How come I cannot get PhotoDeluxe 4.0 to reinstall on Windows XP?
by sbmgrams on February 4, 2009Q: I am having problems with PhotoDeluxe 4.0. I uninstalled it and now I can not re-install. I am running Windows XP. My husbands PC runs Vista and it will load just fine. All files and register records of Adobe have been removed.
What exactly happens when you try to install it?

I did some web searching and found the problem stems from a conflict with Nero 7. I recently installed a new DVD drive and Nero 7 was software included. By going to programs/Nero7/Tools/Scout and once there click on folders and clear all. Then remove check from Enable at top left of window. Click Apply. Restart. All of the Adobe photo programs that previously would not load will now install. This includes PhotoDeluxe 4.0, Photoshop 5.0, 5.5 and 7.0.
In addition, those who have be experiencing errors messages with WOWEXEC and WMS IDLE messages on closing Windows XP will now no longer have the errors.

As is well documented on AskAGeek, PhotoDeluxe is an ancient program that is known to be incompatible with Windows XP.
Since you own a recent version of Photoshop, I assume that you use PhotoDeluxe for simple cropping, color correction, etc. For these purposes, Microsoft’s free Windows Live Photo Gallery is an excellent choice: http://download.live.com/photogallery
Does this help?
