How come PhotoDeluxe 2 crashes when I try to import photos from Picasa?

by on March 16, 2009

Q: I am having a problem impoting photos from Picasa into PhotoDeluxe 2.0 . I keep getting the message “PhotoDeluxe executable has encountered a problem and needs to close”. At which point the program shuts down when I respond to the do not send option. I am running Windows XP with 1MB of ram and had a problem initially getting the program to run but it seems to be loading fine now with the exception of an error message which says “unable to load PSUT9532.DLL PhotoDeluxe will not be able to support 16 bit plug-ins. Continue launching? I press yes and the program starts fine.

Unfortunately PhotoDeluxe 2 is a very very old program, so you’re going to run into issues getting it to run in Windows XP correctly. You can try these directions for running it in compatibility mode: http://www.askageek.com/2007/10/19/adobe-photodeluxe-home-edition-error/

Note that Picasa supports a lot of normal photo editing operations (crop/contrast/red eye reduction/etc). Are there specific capabilities you’re relying on PhotoDeluxe for that Picasa can’t do for you? We might be able to suggest some alternative software.
