I have windows movie maker. I also have anIEEE 1394 firewire card, and a Canon GL2 camera. I want to record live with this set up. I believe that my card is installed properly and all of my connections are connected right. When I go to movie maker to record I get a message that there is no device connected. I have spent some time and money trying to make this work, can you please help me

Does Windows detect the camera at all when it’s powered up? Try the GL2’s USB connection also and see if the PC can detect that. Are there any ‘unknown devices’ in the Windows device manager?
If you’re having issues with the camera I’d suggest contacting Canon, given that kind of gear purchase they should be able to give you some solid technical information.

Also make sure you’ve installed the latest drivers for the camera: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=326&modelid=7512
