Should I get a 50″ LCD TV or a Plasma TV?

by on March 28, 2009

Q: Looking for a flat screen TV about 47″ to 50″. Have heard that LCD is longer lasting than plasma, but others say plasma TV’s has better view from the side than LCD. Your help is greatly appreciated.

  1.

The LCD tech has come a long way to improving picture quality over some of the initial versions. I’m partial to LCD because much lighter and energy efficient. Plasmas can be very energy hungry.

Here is a great chart comparing some of the strengths and weaknesses of each technology:

If you want to go to town on researching your next TV I highly suggest you check out the AVS Forums: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/

You probably won’t find more detail anywhere on impressions of home theater software. Just note that you’re going to find some posters unhappy about every piece of hardware out there, so you’ll need to weigh opinions.

Personally, I’m a big fan of the Sharp Aquos series. I’ve had one of their 42″ LCDs for a year and half now and absolutely love it.

This model might be something to check out at your local retailer: http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-LC52D85U-52-Inch-1080p/dp/B001E91OCO/

    Happy shopping!
