How come the sound wont play when I connect my computer to my TV?
by Guest Geek on April 27, 2009Q: I have connected my PC (Windows XP) to my older TV via a VGA to S-Video converter. The video is fine. I am having difficulty with the audio. I connected an audio cable from my PC tower to the L & R audio inputs on the front of my TV, but I still do not get any sound. Suggestions?

if you plug in a set of headphones that you know work into the same plug on the computer, do they work, or is there no sound?

Mark, we found that plugging the audio cord into a pair of computer speakers allows us to hear the sound, so I know the audio is coming out of the tower. It just doesn’t work when we plug the audio plug into the TV set.

In that case you’re probably plugging into the TV in the wrong spot. I’d suggest consulting your TV manual if you’re not sure.

Thank you, Mark. That worked. We moved the audio cable to the back of the TV, now we can hear the video as well as watch it.
