Upgrading your RAM can give your computer a nice performance boost

Q: I have two computers. The first one is a SR1410NX Compaq Presario and the second one is a SR1050NX Compaq Presario. Both systems currently have PC2700 RAM in them and I am wondering if I can put PC3200 RAM in either of them? I know they are both old but which do you think would be better to add a couple minor upgrades to?

A: PC3200 RAM will work but remember that RAM always runs at the speed of the slowest stick. So if you mix together PC2700 and PC3200 RAM then all the RAM will run at PC2700 speeds.

If your plan is the mix the two speeds then you should only buy PC3200 if it is less expensive than PC2700. Upgrading your RAM on an older computer is one of the best things you can do to get  an extra year or two out of it. Getting the RAM up to 1GB on the newer Compaq will give you a nice performance boost.
