If using your laptop when it isn't plugged in is important to you, you can always buy the replacement battery and swap over when the old one finally bites the dust. That way you don't have to wait a week or two for the replacement battery to arrive. The computer will still work just fine like a desktop pc would without a battery as long as it's plugged in to the wall.
