Will a new flat screen LCD monitor work with my old Gateway computer?
by Guest Geek on June 29, 2009Q: I’m looking for a new flat screen monitor and I have a older tower made by Gateway. Will they work together and what do I need to buy with it? Cords, etc? Any suggestions along with my questions?

As far as hooking monitors into computers go, you’re going to use either VGA (order method), or DVI (newer method) .
The VGA and DVI plugs on the back of a computer look like this:

VGA: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:VGA_connector_%CE%940052.jpg
Now, regardless of what your computer supports you can just use an adapter to go from VGA to DVI. Most monitors will either support VGA directly, or come with an adapter. Or if an adapter isn’t included you can pick one up for a few bucks.
I suggest taking a look at some of the Top Sellers on Newegg.com to see what catches your eye.
