To back up data before you do either of these options, you&#039;ll need an operating system that can boot from CD/DVD ( like http://www.knoppix.net/ or http://www.ubcd4win.com/ ) and some additional data storage, either an External (or 2nd) harddrive, a stack of blank DVDs or a 2nd computer on the home network.  

Use the Bootable operating system disk to give you an environment independent of your now screwed up Vista Installation.  You can now dump all your important files off from your primary harddrive to whatever works for you, and then go ahead with either the repair or the reinstall.  

I know this isn&#039;t want you want to hear, but you&#039;ll want to have all that data backed up away, doubly so if you&#039;re going to be playing around with dangerous stuff like cracks.</description>
