How come my email script is giving me an error saying the host SMTP cannot be found?

by on August 3, 2009

Q: I’m trying to build a website and on one page I put a link so that someone could email me but when I went and tried to email myself through this link it allowed me to write an email but when I pressed send this popped up:

The host ‘STMP’ could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: ‘POP3’, Server: ‘STMP’, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

What does all of this mean and how do I fix it?

One Response to “How come my email script is giving me an error saying the host SMTP cannot be found?”
  1.

The problem is you did not modify the script you downloaded to have the correct hostname. There should be a least 3 settings in the script you downloaded.

    1. Hostname – this is the email server you will use to send the email.
    2. Username – this is the username you will log into the email server with if it is required.
    3. Password – this is the password for the user that will be used to login to the email server if the username is required.

If you can point us to the script you downloaded we could better help you out but only you will be able to figure out what the values are based on who your web host is.
