How can I speed up my Toshiba laptop?

by on August 9, 2009

Q: I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 and I would like to play online games on it but I can’t because it slows down or freezes up. I was wondering how I can make the graphics better. I’ve had it for a few years and I still don’t have the faintest idea about any of the technical stuff (I don’t have the slightest clue what an operating system like this Windows stuff is), so an answer will have to be very easy to understand because I am computer illiterate. I haven’t done anything different to it so it has all the original stuff in it. I wouldn’t know how. I don’t know what the graphics card thing or anything is, but I’m sure a web site could tell if you need to know. Thanks for answering and putting up with my computer dumbness.

Thank you for submitting your question and giving us a chance to help you.

Unfortunately I am going to have to tell you that the video/graphics card (the device that makes everything you see on your computer) cannot be upgraded. For online video games, ie ones you would play in your browser, a graphics/video upgrade would not do much to make the game play any better.

The CPU would be what you want to upgrade and that cannot be upgraded either. The only thing you can do is upgrade the RAM in your laptop.this is actually pretty easy to do in most cases but I am not sure it will get you the speed increase you are looking for with your online games.

Okay thanks for answering so fast. And so what is RAM, how can I upgrade it, and how much does it cost?

RAM is memory that your computer uses to store information while it is running. The best way for you to upgrade it would be to call a local computer store or maybe even BestBuy and ask them how much it will be for the RAM and to install it. From there you will have to figure out if it is worth it to you to upgrade.
