How come my laptops battery shows 0% charge after being plugged in for a half hour?

by on August 16, 2009

Q: I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop that was purchased 4/07. I usually keep it plugged in, but every week or so, I use it on battery (85 WHr 9-cell lithium ion) to maintain the charge. I noticed recently that the charge wasn’t lasting as long and today, it wouldn’t even turn on although it had been plugged in all night. Now it says it is charging, but it still shows 0% charged after 30 minutes. Is it completely dead? I do have an extended hardware warranty. Do they usually include batteries?

Sounds like the battery is probably dead. I suggest you contact Dell to see if you can use your warranty to get a replacement battery.

Li-On batteries have a general life of 2 years, same thing happened to my brother last month. contact dell and see if you can get a new battery, if not then you could try ebay or a dell dealer
