How come I cannot connect to the Internet via my Verizon modem?
by Guest Geek on August 17, 2009Q: I have an HP laptop model dv6700 with Windows Vista. I was always able to access wirelessly through verizon modem and a netgear router. Now my connection tells me local only. I show a connection between the computer and an unidentified network but no connection between it and the Internet. This is on the network and sharing center, can you help?
- Try unplugging the power from your verizon modem and your netgear router, and plugged them back in after a few seconds.
- Check the lights on the DSL modem to make sure it’s connecting correctly.
- Try using the internet again.
If that doesn’t work
- Shutdown your laptop, connect it directly to the Verizon modem, and turn on your PC.
- If you’re still unable to connect to the internet, there is probably a problem with your DSL internet connection and you’ll need to contact Verizon for further support.
