How come World of Warcraft crashes when I play in windowed mode?

by on August 24, 2009

Q: I have been playing World of Warcraft for over 6 months now I have been having problems when as soon I switch from Fullscreen to Windowed Mode my game will freeze and my computer will lock up. It is not instant, it occurs at random points when I am playing (only in windowed mode) and there doesn’t seem to be any links to when it happens.

It happens across all my characters and there doesn’t seem to be anything that the characters share in common when it freezes. The only way I can overcome this when it happens is to shutdown my computer by holding the power button down.

Acer Aspire M5201
4.00 GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit Operating System
AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core Processor 2.20 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

This problem only occurs when playing WoW in Windowed Mode. I can play for hours in Fullscreen but as soon I switch it to Windowed Mode I could play for maybe half hour, an hour or three hours (random times) then it will freeze.

Appreciate any help I can get on this matter as it is getting frustrating and can’t be good for my computer having to shut it down like that all the time.

Make sure you’re running the latest version of the drivers (v190.62, released August 21st) for your video card from http://www.nvidia.com

Let me know if that helps.
