Will a laptop hard drive work in any laptop?
by superdave1957 on September 14, 2009Q: I have Gateway mx6448 and I think the charger port went bad. It has a new battery/charger and doesn’t charge. I put a seagate momentus 5400 hard drive in it a few weeks ago and would like to know if there other laptops that this will work in.

The key thing that will determine if the Seagate laptop drive you purchased will work in other laptops is how it hooks into the laptop. This harddrive uses the Serial ATA (or SATA) standard which is the current standard method for harddrives and has been for a number of years now. Nearly any laptop built in at least the last year or two should accept this harddrive.
Ask or check the laptop’s spec sheets to see if it will accept a Serial ATA harddrive, if it does you should be good to go.
