Will switching over to a solid state hard drive speed up my computer?

by on September 18, 2009

Q: I have an Asus Eee Box B202, 80 gig hard drive, 2 gig of ram running Windows XP Home. The hard drive is 5400rpm and I am wondering if changing the hard drive to a solid state would my computer run a lot faster?

  1.

If you find you’re waiting a lot for programs to load from the harddrive, then yes. Solid State drives are still pretty expensive, but they are dramatically faster than conventional hard drives. It looks like those Eee PCs have a 2.5″ harddrive, so make sure you don’t buy a solid state drive any bigger than that.
