How come I cannot get applications to install on my computer?

Q: How come when I try to download a program on my computer for example java, it will not put in onto my computer. The run, save cancel box comes up and I push run and it goes through the whole download process but when its done the program is still not on my computer. This is how it is for any program I try to add.

    Try saving the downloaded installation file to your desktop, and then double-clicking on it.

    I downloaded it to the desktop and still nothing downloaded to the computer, there was no icon on the desktop like their should be.

    If you’re running Vista and IE7 or IE8, it usually forces all your downloads to go to a Downloads folder in My Documents.
