How come I cannot transfer songs from my iPod to my computer when I am using the iPod as an external hard drive?

Q: I followed instructions on the iTunes website to use my iPod as an external hard drive to transfer my iTunes library from one computer to another. I must have done something wrong because iTunes is now blank on my old computer (won’t even come back if I restore) and my new computer is not letting me transfer the songs from my iPod. it will recognize it as if it is a CD or something, but wont let me save it in my library.

    If it is showing up as a CD or external drive you should be able to go to File -> Add to library… and then browse to the folder to import.

    If you ever have to do this again you should just enable Home Sharing by going to Advanced -> Turn on Home Sharing on both computers and then you can easily copy from one computer to the other.
