How come I cannot increase the resolution on my new monitor?

Q: I just hooked up an Acer 19″ monitor and CANNOT change the screen resolution to a higher setting to accommodate the larger screen…using Microsoft Window XP…tried all of the “help” tutorials….mouse refuses to move the slider from low to high resolution.

    Go into Device Manager and confirm your video card drivers are properly installed.

    Right Click on My Computer, click properties, click the hardware tab, click Device Manager.

    Confirm there aren’t any question marks or exclamation points on any devices. If need, expand the “Display Adapters” section and list all the items listed beneath it (should only be one or two).
