Use Microsoft’s Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and make sure to follow the instructions: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15&displayLang=en
All editions of Windows XP and Windows Vista qualify you to upgrade. So, if you’re running either on your PC today, buy a package labeled “Upgrade”.
I strongly suggest you browse Microsoft’s Windows 7 site to help understand the upgrade process and which license to purchase: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/
