Can I install a PCI Express 1×1 card in a PCI Express 2.0 x 16 slot?

Q: I have an ASUS P6T motherboard and I am running Windows 7. Can I install a PCI Express 1×1 card in a PCI Express 2.0 x 16 slot? Like to know are the Two Compatible?

    While I’ve read of people having mixed results, I have personally done this and had no problems at all.
