Is it the cell phone network or the cell phone that says the persons name that is calling?
by Markperrotta on November 22, 2009Q: When I had sprint my bluetooth headset would tell me who was calling from my contacts (incoming call from joe smith) AT&T only makes a buzzing sound to alert me of incoming call. Is this the network or the different type of phone I now have?

This is a phone specific feature not a network feature. I have personally only seen it on sprint network phones but I am sure AT&T has some phones that do it as well though.

Matt,I called at&t on another issue. While I had them I asked the same question.I am not confident they knew what they were talking about. However they said it was the network not the phone.

Maybe it is a combination of the cell phone and the network. I will have to do some searching and see what I can find.

I did some more research and the phones I am finding that support this seem to be on Sprint or Verizon but I still find it hard to believe it is network specific since it reads the information from the phone book on the phone.
Your best bet might be to go into an AT&T store and see if they have any cell phones that support “Talking Caller ID”.
