If you have the bookmarks.html file from a previous Firefox installation you can do the following:
Launch Firefox
Click Bookmarks> Organize Bookmarks…
Click Import and Backup > Import HTML
Select the bookmarks.html file from your external drive.
For managing your bookmarks in the future, I suggest you check out http://www.xmarks.com/

I don’t know where to find the bookmarks html. My computer broke down so fast, I didn’t think to export them first.

Launch Firefox
Click Bookmarks> Organize Bookmarks…
Click Import and Backup > Restore> Choose file…
Then navigate to the following directory the question marks in the paths below mean that these characters will be unique to your harddriv. X:\ will be the drive letter for your external drive.
If you’re running Windows XP:
X:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\??????.default\bookmarkbackups
If you’re running Windows Vista or 7:
X:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\???????.default\bookmarkbackups
Select the most recently dated file in this folder and your bookmarks will be restored.
