How come my computer keeps rebooting after Windows loads?

by on December 4, 2009

Q: I am running Windows XP Pro 32bit with SP2. I have a home built desktop with an Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz CPU and was only running 256 MB DDR RAM. I just upgraded my RAM by adding a 1GB DDR RAM chip ( I did make sure I used a fully compatible RAM module with the help of crucial.com’s scanner.)

So it now is running 1280mb RAM. My problem is, my computer now seems to be constantly re-booting itself after Windows has fully loaded. The only thing I can think of is that my Automatic Update is turned on and I am trying to install Windows XP SP3. That seems to be when it keeps rebooting, during the install of SP3. Any ideas?

  1.

Try running with just the 1Gig stick and just with the 256Meg stick and see if you still have the same problem.
