Can I downgrade my operating system from Windows Vista to Windows XP?
by Range-xahn on December 27, 2009Q: I have an Acer Aspire 3680 with Windows Vista on it. I want to change this by installing Windows XP Pro from my desktop computer. Can I do this and how?

To install Windows XP on your latop you’d require a few things.
1) A valid license to use it on an additional computer
2) The Windows XP install CD.
Your desktop pc probably didn’t come with a plain Windows XP install CD and also the windows license that came with your desktop usually can’t be transferred to another machine. So unless you purchase a windows license from Microsoft you’re going to be stuck with Vista.
As long as Vista is fully patched and updated via Windows Update, it should be fine. If you’re experiencing slow PC problems it probably has something to do with the software running on the laptop instead.

I’d need to know more about why you want to get rid of Vista and what you want to be able to do with your computer to provide any suggestions.
