Is it possible to reformat a 16GB SD memory stick as 16GB after formatting it as 8GB?
by mazatov on December 28, 2009Q: I formatted my 16GB SD memory stick as 8GB because I needed to use it in my camera which supported only 8GB. Is it possible to restore its original size?

I find it odd that you were able to some how format the memory stick as 8GB. I would think that the same method could be used to format it back to 16GB though. By this I mean go into the device and reformat it.

The thing was that my camera formatted it as 8 gb card. When I put in my camera it said that it’s too big but it can format it as 8gb, so I did it …but now it’s impossible of course to use camera to format it back to 16…

Okay that makes sense. You would have to put the card in a memory reader connected to a computer. From there you would be able to reformat it to the correct size.

I don’t use windows much but you should be able to go into the Disk Manager and it should show you the formatted amount and unformatted amount for the memory stick. It should then let you unformat the part that is formatted and then you should be able to reformat the entire thing.
