How come my TV says it cannot find a signal when I connect it to my laptop?

by on January 3, 2010

Q: I’ve hooked up my 47″ Samsung LCD TV to my PC via DVI to HDMI cable. Neither the computer or the TV can find a signal. The specs on my computer say my graphics card can support dual monitors but in the graphics card control panel changing the nView display mode there is only one option: Only use one display (Single). What am I missing?

  1.

    1) Make sure you’re running the latest version of your graphics card drivers: http://www.nvidia.com

    2) Confirm you have the TV set to the correct input

    3) Try powering down the PC and having the pc only plugged into the TV, not your monitor. Try powering up and see if you get a signal.

Also check your Windows Control Panel’s Display settings area where you would normally set your resolution to see if there are any options you might be missing.

If you’re still having trouble I’ll need to know what version of Windows you’re running and the model of the video card.
