Q: What is the difference between a sim card and an SD card?

A SIM card is much smaller than an SD card. It can only hold a very small amount of data, normally some phone numbers and the information from the cell phone provider so the phone can connect to the network properly. The SIM card is ‘tied’ to the cell phone number. So you can swap a SIM card into a different phone and the new phone will use the same phone number.
SD cards can hold much more data. You will find them in digital cameras to hold thousands of photos, and in portable music players to hold hours of music.
Some high-end cell phones will use both. You’ll need a SIM card from your cell phone provider or else you won’t have a phone number. An SD card might be inserted in the phone to allow it to store music.
