How do I setup a system where we can send a group of people the same text message at the same time?

Q: I want to set up like a text messaging server for my lacrosse team so my coaches can send the whole team text messages at once from a computer. I was wondering how much that kind of thing costs and how would I get around to doing that?

  1.

The easiest way to do this to figure out the phone number for each player and who their cell phone carrier is. From there you can create an email list in the coaches computer. The coach could just type in “lacrosse team” in the “TO:” box and it will send to everyone.

Adding everyone email address is pretty easy if you know their number and their cell phone provider because all cell phone providers have an email to SMS gateway that you can use. The most popular being SprintPCS ([10-digit phone number]@messaging.sprintpcs.com), AT&T (10-digit phone number]@txt.att.net), and Verizon ([10-digit phone number]@vtext.com).

Obviously you could spend more time and program something for a website or setup a mailing list with a provider that will then email to everyone (lacross@yahoo.com for example) that anyone could email to but it is probably better to stick with just setting it up on his computer if that is where he will use it all of the time.

The best part is this is completely free and it doesn’t consume anymore time than it would to figure out everyone’s phone number.
