    I highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials: http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

    It is free, fast and does a great job.

      Most of the reviews i read today were recommending Avast, Avira, and the Microsoft Essentials. In the end I just went for the one i heard the most recommendations on, which was Avast. In your opinion is this a good program? My computer is a 2002 gateway desktop so it is kind of old and I have read that certain programs will slow down older computers. How do these 3 programs compare to one another when it comes to that issue?

    Since they are all free, if you find you’re not happy with how Avast runs on your computer, just try a different one. You’re the best reviewer when it comes to assessing system performance. Just make sure to uninstall one before installing the other. You never want to have two anti-virus programs installed on your computer at once.
