How come my computer is slow even after upgrading the RAM on it?

by on April 12, 2010

Q: I have a Dell Inspiron b130 laptop. I upgraded the memory to 2GB and then a few weeks later it started to run extreme slow and lock up just like before I upgraded the memory. I went back to the partition and reloaded some stuff. I use free zone alarm and free AVG. What should be my next step?

    1. Uninstall Zone Alarm. If you’re behind a router I wouldn’t worry about firewall software, and fully patched version of XP, Vista and 7 do a good job of taking care of anything a router won’t.

    2. Try ditching AVG, and go with Microsoft Security Essentials ( http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ ). It’s free from Microsoft, has a better detection rate than AVG Free, and also covers spyware and malware which is usually a bigger problem that AVG free won’t detect.

Use low resource consuming Avast antivirus and check which process is consuming more resources it can be even a malware or an uncompatible software, then go for alternative.
