What does available physical memory mean?

Q: What is available physical memory ? it says i got 100 to 350 mb.. from total phys. mem. of 1024.mb. in the system info. that looks low. is it ? i have a dell insp. 1505 xp os.. the pages are kind of slow. everything is kind of slow. what can i do to speed things up. any help please.

    In Windows, physical memory referrers to the RAM in the computer. The total is the amount of RAM installed in the computer 1024megabytes (or 1 Gigabyte). Available is the amount of memory the computer isn’t using at the moment and is available for use.
