How come I cannot get Crap Cleaner to download?

by on May 10, 2010

Q: For some reason I can’t get Crap Cleaner to download. It goes from the download 100% screen to Scanning and no program seems to be downloaded. Any ideas?

This is probably either your web browser or your anti-virus software causing the problem.

If you’re using Internet Explorer, try Firefox or vice-versa. If you’re still having trouble please post the versions of browsers you’ve tried and anti-virus software you’re running along with what version of Windows you are running.

My problem has escalated to not being able to download any programs. Not even Firefox. I am running Windows XP Pro SP3, IE8 and Symantec Endpoint ver. 11. Everytime i try to download a program i get a window to OPEN or SAVE. If I do either it appears to work but then I get a SCANNING window. That finishes in a second and I never get the option to RUN or SAVE. I have turned off my Firewall and Symantec and then tried it with the same results. Malwarebytes turns up nothing.

Try running IE8 in “no addons mode”. Start> All Programs, Accessories> System Tools> Internet Explorer (no add-ons).

If that works and you are able to download stuff, then there is an IE8 addon that is causing the problem.

I did what you said and now I am able to download programs. I did follow your directions from START> but it seemed like when i went to Internet Explorer it said (no add-ons) already. So I just looked around on that window and now i am able to download programs. Now, should I just disable one add-on at a time to see which one is causing the problem? There seems to be a lot of them. Thanks

Yes, isolating the problem is just trial and error at this point.

You can also just download Firefox now and switch to that.
