How do I copy video from a DVD to my computer so I can edit it?

by on June 1, 2010

Q: I just received some burnt DVDs from high school. These were VHS tapes transferred to a DVD-RW.

The 2 folders are:

VIDEO_RM
VIDEO_TS

there are more files in both these folders.

VIDEO_RM:
DVD_REC.USR
PVR_TEMP.USR
VIDEO_RM.BUP
VIDEO_RM.DAT
VIDEO_RM.IFO

VIDEO_TS:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1
VTS_01_2
VTS_01_3

The video plays fine on my computer from the disc. I would like to put to video on my computer and transfer to mpeg or some other playable and editable format.

You’ll need some kind of DVD Ripping software. I suggest Handbrake (free) http://handbrake.fr/
