How come I cannot run AutoCad 2007 from an external hard drive

by on July 4, 2010

Q: I am trying to run a licensed version of AutoCad 2007 from a Windows XP formatted hard drive. I have it in a hard drive enclosure and connected it to my Windows Vista Basic Laptop. I cannot get it to run and the compatibility wizard hasn’t worked.

  1.

These programs usually require registry settings and other hidden settings that get set during install. This would mean that it probably works fine from the computer that you used to install AutoCad onto the external hard drive but it will not work on any other computers unless you reinstall onto the external hard drive from the new computer.
