Will converting a 320kbps MP3 to LAME 320kbps still sound good?

by on July 19, 2010

Q: I’m re-encoding a 320 kbps CBR mp3 file to 320 kbps CBR (the same constant bitrate) using LAME 3.98.4 I know this makes no sense at all, its more of a theoretical test. I know I will lose some sound quality. My question is how much will I lose? Will the resulting mp3 still be at least FM radio quality? Would a regular 192 kbps mp3 sound better? Thank you so much for your time!

You probably won’t notice the difference with any of the options you mentioned, but I suggest you experiment with settings to see what you’re most happy with, it’s all very subjective based on the quality of your ears and speakers!

So run the same sound though a whole bunch of ways and try a blind test to see if you can tell the difference.

Thanks, so I take it from your post the resulting mp3 will still be atleast equal to or better than a 128 kbps mp3 generated from a wave file. Thanks man!
