Where can I find a Windows 7 compatible CD-ROM for my Dell Inspiron?

by on July 22, 2010

Q: I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that was upgraded to Windows 7. It has a known compatibility issue that has caused my CD-ROM to function only intermittently. I have tried a few of the fixes published by Dell and Microsoft and they have not worked. I would like to simply replace the CD-ROM but I need to make sure that I purchase one that is compatible with both my computer and windows 7. Can you recommend an appropriate CD-ROM?

From what I can find there are only a couple of drives that were created for the Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Are you sure that there is an incompatibility or is the drive that is failing? I’ve found a replacement drive here… http://www.amazon.com/Original-Internal-Panasonic-Rewriteable-Latitude/dp/B003COOQV0 If you are sure that the drive isn’t failing I would say that your best bet would be to get an external USB slim dvd drive.

Yes, I am sure of the incompatibility issue; it is a known issue for this particular computer when windows 7 is installed. Dell and microsoft have both published fixes for the problem but they are not working for me. The drive works intermittently and not long enough to download anything from CD. Thank you for the information on the external drive. If this is the only option, I will have to consider it. I am hoping for an internal drive. No luck?
