Is it possible to add wireless weather resistant outdoor speakers to my stereo system?

by on July 30, 2010

Q: I have a Sony component system inside the house. I would like to add wireless weather resistant outdoor speakers so that I can listen to music outside as well. I would prefer the ability to have the music playing outside only, inside only, and inside and out at the same time. I would like to do this without drilling holes in the exterior concrete walls, and running wires from the outside to the inside. Please tell me if this is possible, and what I need to buy.

Yes, this is possible. A lot depends on your budget, your goals and the actual space you want to fit with music.
There are rechargeable speakers and speakers that get plugged in. Some are portable while others are designed to be permanently mounted.

Turning different speakers on and off is a common feature in nicer receiver units or you can potentially use a separate switch.

For best results, I suggest you talk to a local audio professional who can take a look at your site and provide suggestions and potentially installation.

If that isn’t in the cards, I suggest you get some equipment suggestions from AVS Forums: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/

I suggest if you decide to post there, to also include a budget, the exact model numbers of your existing audio equipment and the size and configuration of the outdoor space you’d like to fill with music.
