If I upload music to a widget does it take up space on my website?

by on August 1, 2010

Q: I have a small limit on the storage space on my website. I embedded a widget that plays music I make. I can upload up to a lot of music (10 GB) into the widget, which is basically an infinite amount of storage for me. Will the music in my widget eat up the storage space on my website, or will it take up virtually 0 space.

We need to know what widget you are talking about. There is a slight chance that it uses the widget makers website to store the information but I very much doubt that. I suspect it uses your host to store the information but there is no way to know without knowing what the widget is.

I would also urge you to be careful about uploading music on the internet as you could be in violation of different state and federal laws. I know everyone loves to have music on their website and be able to listen to music for free but there is really no such thing as “free music” because someone pays for it some where when you get to listen to it free. So if you have copyrighted music that you don’t own the copyright to be very careful.
