How come my CD-ROM stopped working after I installed a video card?

by on August 7, 2010

Q: I installed a new video card on my Dell Inspiron 531 and now I have no internet connection, no sound, and the computer no longer recognizes the CD-ROM. This means I cannot reinstall anything or try to install drivers. Any suggestions?

  1.

If that much stopped working then it would seem that your hardware installation did not go very well. Some other parts may have been unplugged?

I suggest opening the PC to confirm that you’re reconnected everything correctly. As well as making sure you remembered to plug everything back in on the back of the care correctly.

If you’re new to pc hardware installs you might want to have a friend come over to double-check your work.

Once you’re up and running you should download the latest video card drivers from either ati.com or nvidia.com
