    An X16 slot is much longer and usually used for video cards. X1 slots are pretty short, only about an inch or so.

    X1 slots are sometimes used for sound cards and HD TV tuners.

    You can also plug an X1 card into an X16 slot and it will work fine. However you can’t plug an X16 card into an X1 slot.
