How come I get errors saying I have a strict NAT when trying to play Red Dead Redemption?

by on August 17, 2010

Q: I have a hard time connecting to Rockstar’s games’ servers like Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4. It will either give me a message before I look for a game that says “You have a strict NAT blah blah” or it will rarely connect to a game with one person in it. I have opened the necessary ports on my router (Netgear WGR 614 v7) and activated UPnP. Can someone help me with this unusual dilemma? It doesn’t do this as much with other games but it’s a huge inconvenience.

Check these directions out to make sure you’ve set the right settings on your router: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no0-Hsvk1-U

make sure you’re running updated firmware as well.

YeahI’ve already changed my NAT settings to open. I think theres something about turning off a firewall but if its the windows firewall then I turn it off when I play Xbox live.
