How can I remove the trojan Patched.L from my computer?

by on August 31, 2010

Q: I have a trogan on my laptop called ‘trojan:win32/Patched.L’ that i cant seem to get rid of. I have scanned with Spybot, I also use Microsoft Security Essentials and Anti Malewarebytes. Does anyone have any ideas for how I can remove it, and also the best way to protect myself in the future?

    Picked as best answer

    Disable System Restore (if applicable)
Boot into Windows Safe mode (with network)
Fire up Security Essentials, run a definition update, and then do a full system scan.
Then reboot the system as normal and do another scan.
If you’re clean turn system restore back on.

To protect yourself in the future:
    – Run the latest version of your OS
    – Don’t download pirated software/music/videos
    – Stay away from P2P sharing systems
    – Only download files from trusted sources
    – Switch to a webmail service with built in virus scanning (like gmail)
    – Use Firefox
    – If you’re about to install a program you’ve never heard of before do a google search first to see if it’s legit.
    – If you have a suspicious file or website, you can submit it to to scan for you.

Thanks Mark, brilliant advice with clear simple instructions that even someone as technically challenged as me can follow…my system is now clear of nasties!

I don’t know what I’d do without you guys… thank you.

    Keep up the fantastic work.
