How come the battery in my laptop said the battery had malfunctioned but now it says it is fine?

Q: I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop computer. There was a blinking orange battery light going off to the right of the keyboard. When I checked the battery meter setting, it said that the battery was plugged in but not charging. When I clicked the icon that says Battery Health, it said the battery has malfunctioned and needs to be replaced. I called Dell and ordered a new battery for a $172. An hour later, my battery shows that is 100% charged, and when I checked the Battery health, it says your battery is performing normally. The blinking orange battery light, however, is still lighting up. Can you give me any ideas about what is going on or what I could do? Also, can you suggest any websites where I could order a new battery for a better price? I have tried to cancel the Dell order, but it is after normal business hours, and even the website won’t allow me to do so. Any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

  1.

The issue is specific to dell’s hardware, so you’ll need to talk to them directly to figure out what’s going on exactly.

As far as cheaper batteries go, there are a lot of options that are cheaper, the main issue is that if you use a non-dell battery and run into any problems with the laptop, dell may not back you up for warranty support. To quote dell:
” Dell has a rigorous qualification process by which all Dell batteries are validated to ensure proper function, performance and safety. Some non-Dell batteries are available in the market with claims of compatibility with Dell systems. Dell cannot verify these claims, nor the safety of using them in a Dell system. Dell strongly encourages our customers to use only Dell laptop batteries advertised as appropriate for their laptop model. Only Dell laptop batteries come with a 1-year warranty, are engineered for optimal safety and performance for Dell systems, and are supported by Dell technical support for the length of the warranty period. ”

Here are some batteries that claim to be compatible with the Inspiron 1521 on amazon: http://amzn.to/aRMAdG looks like about $35.
