Q: If I work on the internet from home can my employer tell if I am using cable, DSL, or satillite ISP?

    Yes. Any website or server you connect to will know your IP address, this data is frequently logged as well. Since IP addresses are assigned to different Internet Service Providers (ISP), an IP address can be used to determine your ISP. From there it can be usually determined what type of connect you have.

    Example: If I know your ISP is Comcast then you must have a cable connection, as Comcast doesn’t sell DSL or satellite internet.
